Guests joined Buckhead Heritage for an evening of factoids, trivia and anecdotes of Atlanta’s most interesting stories as author and Buckhead Heritage board member James Ottley presented his recently published book, Atlanta History for Cocktail Parties II: Another Round.

In his mid-twenties, Ottley read from cover-to-cover Franklin Garrett’s comprehensive history of Atlanta, entitled: Atlanta and Environs: A Chronicle of Its People and Events. He found it fascinating, but realized many readers would not have the time or, perhaps interest, to read the entire text since it is over 2,000 pages long, is comprised of three volumes and contains almost every detail of Atlanta’s history. He thought it a worthy endeavor to attempt a synopsis of Garrett’s work to make the highlights available to readers with a more casual interest in Atlanta history. In the first volume of Atlanta History for Cocktail Parties, he tackled the first volume of Garrett’s work. In that endeavor, he sought to extract what he felt to be the most interesting events and facts with the hope that this might in turn inspire some readers to learn more about Atlanta history. In Atlanta History for Cocktail Parties II: Another Round, he has attempted to accomplish the same task working primarily from Garrett’s second volume of Atlanta and Environs. The content comprises a series of stories that he found interesting enough to risk recounting at cocktail parties.
